3 Day Eastern Cape Parks and Amathole Cultural Tour

 

3 Day Eastern Cape Safari Depart Port ELizabeth Return Port Elizabeth Code: 3 ECS PE-PE

There are various reserves in the Eastern Cape which may be visited. The Lodges vary from 3-star to 5-star grading and all lodges utilised by Lyon Tours & Safaris include meals and game activities in the cost.

DAY 1:  Depart from Port Elizabeth for the specific reserve that you have selected. On arrival at the Lodge, you will be taken on a game drive until the evening when you will observe nocturnal species of the wild. On your return you will enjoy a cooked meal and a few drinks around the fire under the stars.

DAY 2:  You will have the chance to experience the wild by joining your guide on a game drive or a bush walk, whichever has been chosen the previous evening. During your drive you will be treated to a stop where you will enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea with snacks and biscuits. This will be followed by more of nature’s surprises. On your return to the lodge you will enjoy a hearty breakfast before having some free time to reflect on your trip. After lunch you may enjoy exploring the lodge’s surroundings until tea time. You will then depart for the evening game-viewing excursion. During this drive, you will be served

sun-downer drinks and snacks amidst discussions with and interpretation of the environment, by your guide. Dinner will be served on your return. While you enjoy a nightcap in the boma or around the bar, you may be entertained by stories of the African Bush before retiring to bed.

DAY 3:  You will awaken to the sounds of the bush and then enjoy one last bush excursion before breakfast. On this drive you will hopefully experience new and exciting sightings. After breakfast, your guide will take you to Port Elizabeth to return your hired car or to be taken to your requested destination.

DAY 1:  You will depart Port Elizabeth and travel to the Addo Elephant National Park where you will spend one night at the exquisite Gorah Elephant Camp, part of the Hunters Hotels within the park. Here you will be treated to an evening drive with an experienced guide who will interpret the environment. Hopefully you will spot the mighty elephant, from which the Park derived its name.

DAY 2: You will receive a wake up call from your guide for an early drive through the park accompanied by him, looking for the animals that you did not find the previous night. On your return to the lodge, you will enjoy a scrumptious breakfast over-looking a watering hole. After breakfast you will depart for the Kwandwe Private Reserve where you will also be spoiled and well looked after. You will be accommodated in their well known Ecca Lodge where you will be assigned a guide who will also accompany you on your evening drive looking for the amazing fauna that occurs in this area. You will be presented with an amazing dinner on your return after freshening up and have the opportunity to relax with a drink and reflect on the days sightings.

DAY 3:  Day three will be your last day on this luxury journey and you will return to Port Elizabeth after a hearty breakfast at the Lodge. You will have the chance to enjoy a last excursion into the reserve on a drive with your ranger who will do his/her best to find some really interesting things for you to enjoy.

3 Day Elephant & Rhino Safari Depart Port Elizabeth Return to Port Elizabeth Code: 3 ERS PE-PE

DAY 1:  The tour departs at 10am for Addo National Park to ensure enough time in the park during the afternoon. Exploring from your vehicle, you will be looking for the creature from which the park derives its name, the mighty elephant. There will be an option of a night drive in which your knowledgeable guide will attempt to find many nocturnal species to show you. Dinner will be served either before you depart on your night drive, or if the drive leaves early, dinner can be enjoyed afterwards. You will stay in the park’s very comfortable self catering cottages / chalets.

DAY 2:  After an early morning breakfast, you will get one last opportunity to explore the park on your own to look for any elusive species not yet experienced. Departing the park at 11:00am, you will travel to the Great Fish Reserve where you will spend the night at the Mvubu Chalets within the reserve. As this was the centre of the frontier wars between the English and the Xhosa people, you will get a chance to explore this special area filled with rich history. You will have the option of going on a night drive with a ranger. Please be aware that this is a SELF CATERING RESERVE so it is essential to bring your own food. The Chalets are fully serviced by the staff of the reserve.

DAY 3: Early in the morning of this day, you will have the opportunity to go for a wilderness trail with one of the experienced rangers of the reserve, looking for the smaller creatures, like insects, and flora, as well as the big animals like Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo. After this exciting walk you can settle for a bite to eat and then depart for Port Elizabeth to end this exciting adventure.

DAY 1: Departing Port Elizabeth in the morning to ensure you get a days worth of Game viewing with in the famous Addo Elephant National Park. The tour will be hosted by a professional guide who is fully qualified. The vehicle you shall travel in is a very comfortable air-conditioned VW Caravelle with refreshments and snacks always available for Lyon Tours & Safari guests. You will have the opportunity to stop at lunch time to enjoy snacks and drinks at a view point within the park, Cold refreshments and hot drinks will be on offer. The afternoon continues within the Park looking for the big five with interesting flora & fauna been interpreted to the guests on the way by your Lyon Tours & Safaris guide. Late afternoon the group will depart the Park and travel up to the Zuurberg section of the Addo National park and enjoy an evening on top of the mountain range at Camp Fig Tree Lodge. Dinner will be served and you can enjoy the stars and the uniqueness of this area.

Camp Figtree welcomes you to the era of colonial sophistication, to the beauty of the African continent and the warm friendship of the South African Eastern Cape Province.  The camp has been designed around the original 1920’s traditional colonial building style, including the distinctive use of corrugated iron roofing and wide, sweeping verandas that create a backdrop of nostalgic elegance reminiscent of the early pioneers. Camp Figtree is set on top of the Zuurberg Mountain range, resting between the 12 000 ha Riverbend Conservancy on the Southern boundary and the Addo Elephant National Park to the North. Addo entrance gate is a mere 20 minutes drive away and has more annual visitors than East Africa’s Serengeti National Park. The camp boasts 270-degree views over the Afro-Mountain Valleys and is approximately 75km from Port Elizabeth on the N2.

DAY 2: An early wake up at 6, enjoy some coffee/tea and biscuits before departing for the Addo Elephant Back Safaris where you will have the honor to ride and interact with the African Giants, the African Elephant. You will enjoy a leisurely walk, the pace set by the Elephants themselves which is not strenuous at all, the walk allows you to interact with, feed and observe the Elephants in their natural habitat. After the walk you can enjoy a meal and refreshment on the deck over looking the waterhole while watching the Elephants enjoying a swim in the dam. The tour will depart from here travelling to the Great Fish Nature Reserve where you will settle into your accommodation and then depart on an evening Game drive where you will stop at a view point to enjoy an African sundowner drink overlooking the Fish River snaking its way through the landscape. The drive back will hopefully be full of nocturnal wildlife and on return to the Lodge there will be a fire going with the food being prepared and soon ready to serve. After dinner you can enjoy the sounds of Africa while retiring to your beds for a great nights rest.
The Great Fish River Nature Reserve comprises the Andries Vosloo Kudu Reserve, the Double Drift Nature Reserve and the Sam Knott Nature Reserve. These reserves are linked by a circular route and total combined size of about 45,000 hectares. The area in which the reserves are located was in the past an area of conflict and war, with the Great Fish River often forming the boundary between the Settler and Xhosa territories. As a result, the area has a rich historical background and a number of forts, signaling towers, fortified farmsteads, barracks and graves that are located within the reserve. Its open succulent valley bushveld and rugged terrain provides diverse habitats and panoramic views, boasts an abundance of game including Black Rhino, Cape buffalo, Hippo and Kudu. The area of Great Fish River is semi-arid. The variations in height throughout the reserve provide for moderately wide-ranging climatic conditions. Both rainfall and temperature vary markedly throughout the reserve – with hot, semi-arid lowland areas and cool, wetter conditions at the higher areas. Rainfall is highly variable from year to year and usually peaks in October (spring) and March (autumn) with relatively dry winters.

DAY 3: This morning there will be Tea/coffee and biscuits on offer before you depart on your morning guided trail with a ranger from the Fish River Reserve who will interpret the area for the guests. It is an extremely interesting walk and there is a good chance of viewing the famous Black Rhino. On your return to the Lodge nbsp;breakfast will be prepared for you and you can enjoy a hot breakfast with cereals and breakfasts on offer. After you have enjoyed breakfast you will travel to the town of Grahamstown where you will enjoy the company of a guide who lives in the area and will take the group around the Historical Grahamstown telling you all about its history and cultures. Lunch will be enjoyed at a coffee shop in town where you can chat to your local guide and get a good incite into the town. After lunch the tour departs for Port Elizabeth to end the spectacular safari with Lyon Tours & Safaris. The guide will drop the clients off at the requested destination in Port Elizabeth.
